In order to make full use of global quality educational resources, promote the internationalization of student training, enhance students’ global competence, and promote further teaching and research cooperation between Jilin University and world-class institutions, with the great support of the Office of Global Engagement and Norman Bethune Health Science Center of Jilin University, our school launched the “Global Competence Enhancement Program for JLUSPS Students” online course from August 11 to 20, 2021.

We invited professors and researchers from renowned institutions such as Harvard University, National University of Singapore, University of British Columbia and RIKEN in Japan to give lectures to students. The contents of courses include pathological molecular biological mechanisms of tumors, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease and other common diseases and their applications in novel therapeutic approaches and drug development, application of metabonomics in the research and development of pharmaceutical products, design of novel biomaterials and their applications in drug/gene delivery and tissue engineering, use of human iPSC-derived brain-like organs in researches of neurodevelopmental disorders, etc. A total of 247 undergraduate and graduate students attended the courses. To improve the quality of learning, each class was facilitated by young faculty members in related fields, who guided students in preview, organized in-class Q&A session and answered questions after class, so that students could really learn knowledge from the courses.

The Summer 2021 “Global Competence Enhancement Program for JLUSPS Students” has been successfully concluded. The success of the online courses has not only expanded the international vision of our students, exposed them to the most advanced research concepts and techniques in pharmaceutical research, stimulated their interest in research, but also provided a platform for our young teachers to communicate with foreign academic masters, laying a sound foundation for further international cooperation.
